Inferring Activities and Optimal Trips: Lessons from Singapore’s National Science Experiment

The National Science Experiment (NSE) saw over 40,000 Singapore students carry a custom-made sensor for up to 4 days. The sensor logs every 13 seconds, whenever possible, GPS locations as well as environmental factors such as temperature or humidity. We develop an algorithm to split the stream of raw locations into individual trips and strive to understand the purpose and efficiency of these trips from data collected in third-party APIs.
